If you missed the release of the maxi-single “Glimmer” a couple weeks ago, you may have missed a bit of the background about this great band. In that time, they’ve released a couple incredible EPs on the Swedish netlabel Go, Jukebox! and performed live, on and off, in the Malmö region. I have little doubt that you’ll find at least a couple tracks that you also call gems. Who knows, perhaps you’ll call them all gems, just as I do! So what exactly is packed in this release? It all started sometime last year with a friend of mine, Rob Pitt, saying that he’d love it if there were a “minimal” netBloc release. However, with the netBloc series being about variety, I felt that I couldn’t release something so narrowly focused on one sub-genre. If I were to put together something remotely like that, it had to be something more varied. I decided to begin slowly pulling together instrumental netaudio gems as I came across them while developing other netBloc... According to Chinese philosophy two opposing forces, the yin and the yang, co-exist interdependently to make up universal existence. You cannot have one without the other. So it seems in many aspects of life that you cannot have the good without the bad and vice-versa. Life, death, love, hate, peace, war all intermingled in equilibrium. Would we be able to recognize peace without war? War without peace? Would we recognize the gloriousness of a thriving, new alternative community of music based... This here is our proper December 2007 release... a bit late. It's a terrific collection of 10 net audio gems that explores the acoustic side of sound in varying degrees. Some tracks are purely acoustic, while others merge the digital with the acoustic. When you're done with this, be sure to leave a review and then head over to blocSonic for more surprises! This was a release that I hoped to have ready in time for the holidays and was to be a holiday gift. Things didn’t fall into place as quickly as I had originally hoped, so here you have it now, a couple months late. What you’ll find with this one is a “concept” album. At least a concept in as much as a compilation can be a concept. There’s an overlying theme... that of the Moon. There’s a loosely tied narrative that is held together through the use of public domain texts, video and... ( 2 reviews ) Topics: rock, electronic, pop, indie
It’s always exciting when I come across an artist who delivers an album that can be enjoyed from beginning to end. It’s even more enjoyable when that artist is completely independent. There’s something to be said for music independence in these days of packaged and repackaged mainstream music product. Independent music isn’t held back by labels and expectations to fit a certain mold. When I first heard Ant’s “Fly”, I was very impressed by the fact that it had that classic hip-hop... Finally, when all is said and done… this release is 1000% better because of the replacement tracks and new play order. Back in February, Joey Ripps approached me about releasing one of his projects through blocSonic. Chuck D and Public Enemy have long been innovators that bring technology & hip-hop together. This extends to using the internet in unique ways. An example of this was the release of their 1999 album “There’s A Poison Goin’ On” which was the first album by a platinum selling group to be distributed online. Another example was Chuck D bringing together a group of fans from around the world to form the world’s first virtual rapp squad, The Impossebulls.Impossebulls’ producer and... Hip-hop is an incredibly diverse musical genre that has a bad reputation no thanks to the American mainstream branch of it. People who write-off hip-hop as idiotic, materialistic, violent or misogynist are only getting a small slice of what it’s about. Since hip-hop has become international there are a wide array of ideas about what hip-hop should be today in 2009 and beyond. We set things off in 2007 with our premiere release, “netBloc Vol. 1: The Opening Salvo”. Even at that early stage, I knew that I wanted blocSonic to be a bit more than your standard “netlabel”. I didn’t want blocSonic to be completely self-serving… it was to be a promotional vehicle for netlabels, artists and the netaudio culture. Love of music is what the netBloc series is about. It’s not about hatred of the mainstream music industry; even though it may seem so sometimes (no matter how much I am against everything that the music industry represents these days). The fact of the matter is that there are artists; worldwide; who aren’t being heard because they don’t fit into some generic compartment that the current music industry has deemed economically viable. The industry has completely lost sight of the art. As... Topics: blocsonic, netbloc, creative commons, free, music, downloads, flac, mp3, ogg, fabrizio paterlini,...

Hello again everyone. After a month off, I was eager to unleash volume 9 to the world. As the title suggests, it's focused on "lo-fi" offerings that the world of net audio has to offer. Lo-fi as a description for music is kind of vague and can include many genres. Personally, I define lo-fi as any music without slick production – music that can contain distorted samples or distortion itself applied to any number of song elements. In fact, distortion becomes an advantage in the... Topics: rock, pop, electronic, trip-hop, hip-hop
